Vijay, the famous actor from the South, recently had a movie called ‘Leo,’ directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, hit the theaters on October 19 during Ayudha Pooja. Right from the start, the action-packed drama set records for an Indian film on its first day and continued breaking box office records. Now, ‘Leo’ has achieved another milestone by surpassing the total earnings of Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer,’ making it the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023.
‘Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer,’ released in August, had earned a reported Rs 610 crores worldwide, making it the top-grossing Tamil film of 2023. However, this record was short-lived as ‘Leo’ crossed the mark by reportedly grossing over Rs 612 crores by the end of day 26. With this, ‘Leo’ has now become the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023 and the second-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time, after Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0.’
The film’s success is evident in its strong performance at the box office, maintaining solid occupancy in Tamil Nadu. The makers of ‘Leo’ even celebrated the film’s achievements by sharing a new poster on Diwali, listing the records it broke. It’s likely that more announcements or posters confirming ‘Leo’ as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023 will follow.
As ‘Leo’ completes its four-week theatrical run by November 15, the film is gearing up for an OTT release. The official release date for the online streaming is expected to be announced soon.
