US Open, Day 4 Schedule: Alcaraz, Pegula, and Medvedev Ready for Round 2 Matches

Day 3 of the US Open brought surprising outcomes. Casper Ruud, seeded fifth and last year’s runner-up, was defeated by China’s Zhang Zhizhen on August 30th.

Despite winning the fourth set 6-0, Ruud couldn’t maintain his momentum in the final set. Zhang, ranked 67th in the world, achieved a remarkable upset, becoming the first Chinese player to defeat a top 5 seed in men’s tennis singles. The match ended 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 in Zhang’s favor.

Another unexpected result came from the match between Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas and Switzerland’s Dominic Stricker. Stricker triumphed 7-5, 6-7(2), 6-7(5), 7-6(6), 6-3, securing his first victory against a top-10 player and sending Tsitsipas out of the tournament earlier than anticipated.

In doubles action, Rohan Bopanna from India and Matthew Ebden from Australia displayed their skills by defeating the Australian duo Christopher O’Connell and Aleksandar Vukic in the first round. Bopanna and Ebden’s impressive teamwork and serving abilities allowed them to win 60 points compared to their opponents’ 32.

The standout moment of the day was world No. 1 Novak Djokovic’s dominant performance against Spain’s Bernabe Zapata Miralles. Djokovic secured his second-round victory with a score of 6-4, 6-1, 6-1.

Day 4 Schedule:

The day’s action begins with Britain’s Andy Murray taking on Gregor Dimitrov at the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Later, Carlos Alcaraz will face South Africa’s Llyod Harris. Harris, who defeated Argentine Guido Pella in a three-set match, will be aiming for another victory.

Three Indian players are set to compete today: Rohan Bopanna, Saketh Myneni, and Yuki Bhambri. While Bopanna has advanced to the second round, the other two will start their campaigns.
