Men experience imposter syndrome too – here’s how to overcome it

Imposter syndrome is when you feel like you’re not good enough, even if you’re successful. Anyone can feel this way, no matter their age or job. But sometimes, men and women feel it differently. Men might find it tough to talk about it.

Here are some reasons why people might have imposter syndrome:

  • Wanting to be perfect all the time
  • Being afraid of failing or being rejected
  • Not feeling confident
  • Getting lots of negative comments
  • Feeling like you don’t fit in

Men might show these signs:

  • Working too much to prove themselves
  • Not doing things because they might not be perfect
  • Always needing other people to say they’re doing well
  • Hurting their own relationships and successes
  • Feeling really worried, sad, or tired

Here are some things you can do to feel better:

  • Notice when you doubt yourself and remember facts that show you’re good
  • Don’t compare yourself to others, focus on your own strengths
  • Talk to your coworkers about your problems and successes
  • Think about what you’re good at and remember good feedback
  • Make a safe space for your team and work together
  • Remember that many people feel this way sometimes
  • Be proud of what you do and how you help

I hope this helps you. If you want to learn more, you can read news articles or watch a TEDx Talk about it.
